Initiatives

At any given time, NAv6TF members are participating in numerous initiatives that advance IPv6 integration, whether it be from a technical or business oriented perspective. Following is a list of current NAv6TF-related initiatives:

Ongoing Initiatives

Initiative title: NAT Privacy Replacement With IPv6
Issue/Problem the Initiative Will Address: This study is looking at the relative privacy benefits of IPv4 NAT and developing guidance on achieving better security through IPv6 capable firewalls, privacy addresses [RFC 3041], and IPSec.
POC list: David Green

Initiative title: Survey of IPv6 Capable IA Security Assessment Tools
Issue/Problem the Initiative Will Address: This survey has yielded a list of the current IPv6 capable assessment tools, and a list of the IPv4 tolls not yet ported to IPv6.
POC list: Gene Cronk
Briefings/documents applicable: Documents Coming Soon

Initiative title: Securing Tunnel Brokers with Digital Certificates
Issue/Problem the Initiative Will Address: This study is developing security policy guidance on building trusted tunnel broker sites and signing the tunnel broker software downloads to ensure authenticity and security certification.
POC list: David Green

Completed Initiatives

Initiative title: IPv6 Enterprise Analysis
Issue/Problem the Initiative Will Address: This study has produced an IETF document to describe the scenarios for IPv6 deployment within enterprise networks. It defines a small set of basic enterprise scenarios and includes pertinent questions to allow enterprise administrators to further refine their deployment scenarios.
Brief description of the planned approach: Enterprise deployment requirements are discussed in terms of coexistence with IPv4 nodes, networks and applications, and in terms of basic network infrastructure requirements for IPv6 deployment.
POC list: Jim Bound
Status: Work in progress
Briefings/documents applicable: http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-v6ops-ent-analysis-01.txt

Planned Initiatives

Initiative title: MetroNet6
Issue/Problem the Initiative Will Address: Utilize existing technologies to build a prototype network that will highlight the benefits of Mobile IPv6, Ad Hoc networks, and IPv6 in improving communication systems for use by Homeland Security personnel.
Brief description of the planned approach: The proposal is to build a prototype MetroNet6 in the State of California beginning in Sacramento and establish city-to-city communications with Palo Alto. In addition, state-to-state MetroNet6 network communications would be part of the project. For city-to-city and state-to-state communications, the current NAv6TF Moonv6 (www.moonv6.org) project can provide an IPv6 native backbone peering network.
POC list: Jim Bound/Geof Lambert
Status: New work still in development stage
